Explorations on 2 wheels

Our biking field study on Tuesday was a success. The different ability groups biked varied distances while doing biodiversity themed stations set up for them along the way. We studied animal tracks in the mud that really showcased the wide variety of animals that move through that space including deer and coyote. Students took part in some team building games and we learning about some important plants like poison ivy and hemp dogbane. A nature based scavenger hunt had students discovering all sorts of interesting things on Christmas Island! Finally, we went in the Interpretive Centre, and I led a discussion on the various physical adaptations that birds have to help them meet their needs. Megan Weir led an plein-air drawing session with water colour pencils.

Another big thank you to all the SABNES volunteers, parent volunteers that helped to lead groups, and to parents that dropped off and picked up children at the Wharf!
